More on exploratory data analysis
Kind reader Alexandre Drahon writes in response to my
EDA lament:
Although Tukey's book is expensive or/and difficult to find, there
are some resources available to get a first insight into EDA. A
general introduction is available on the Web
http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/eda.htm (I'm not
qualified to say if it is a good introduction, but it was useful for
me). There are some references to EDA in the field of data
visualization and visual data-mining (for instance
http://www.cis.hut.fi/~sami/thesis/thesis_tohtml.html). For french
speaking people there is a swiss researchers association dedicated
to the subject
http://www.unige.ch/ses/sococ/mirage/
I hope you can use one of this resources to introduce EDA to other
people. Edward Tufte speaks a lot about John Tukey, maybe his
website's forum is a good place to search
